Choosing a paddle
There are many different paddle styles, so it's essential that you find the paddle to suit your chosen pursuit. Here are some tips to help you make the right choice.

Sea kayaking/touring
Longer shafts, lighter materials, smaller blade sizes for efficiency and faster stroke rate, reducing drag and energy efficiency. Blades are generally asymmetrical in shape.

Whitewater
Shorter, stronger shafts, durable blade, larger blades to grip water for repeated acceleration/deceleration. Generally slightly heavier than touring paddles. Blades are generally symmetrical in shape.

Surf
Shorter, stronger shafts, larger blades to grip water for repeated acceleration/deceleration. Blades are generally asymmetrical in shape.

Choosing the right Canoe Paddle
BOW PADDLE: Bow paddling requires shorter more frequent strokes, a shorter paddle is suggested. As a general rule, a bow paddle should measure from the ground to the middle of the chest of a standing paddler.

STERN PADDLE: Stern paddling requires longer strokes, as well as maneuvering and steering the canoe, a longer paddle is suggested. As a general rule, a stern paddle should measure from the ground to the collar bone of a standing paddler.
